Chinkin Guitar “Nishikigoi” Model

[Features]
This special model is inspired by Nishikigoi (Japanese Koi, carp), one of Japan's most celebrated ornamental fish, and is decorated using the traditional Japanese craftsmanship, Chinkin.
The deep black body evokes the surface of a tranquil pond, while two graceful koi are depicted through intricate engraving and hand-applied colors. The combination of detailed Chinkin craftsmanship and gold hardware creates a striking visual presence, making the guitar as impressive on display as it is in performance.
For centuries, Nishikigoi have symbolized success, prosperity, and achievement, making them a highly auspicious motif admired both in Japan and around the world.
Each piece is entirely handcrafted, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind work of Japanese art.

[Production]
This model is created by a lacquer artist from Echizen, using the traditional Japanese decorative technique known as Chinkin.
Chinkin is a centuries-old art form in which delicate patterns are engraved into a lacquered surface with fine chisels, then filled with gold powder and colored lacquer. With a history of more than 700 years, the technique requires exceptional skill, precision, and years of experience.
We create each piece using your own electric guitar as the base instrument. The koi design is first carefully drawn onto the black body, after which every line is engraved entirely by hand. Multiple layers of gold and color are then applied to express the texture of the scales and the elegant movement of the fish.
The warmth and refinement achieved through this process cannot be replicated by machine production.
Blending the functional beauty of a musical instrument with the aesthetics of Japanese craftsmanship, this is a guitar designed not only to be played, but also to be admired as a work of art.

Ordering a Custom Design

We also accept custom design orders.
Based on your preferred motif, a lacquer artist will create a design and apply the splendid maki-e (gold lacquer) to piano parts or spoons. Alternatively, you can entrust us with photographs of your beloved pets, family members, or acquaintances, and a chinkin (gold inlay) artist will apply the chinkin to portraits, decorative frames, and other items.
We will proceed with the design while consulting with you.

STEP 1
You can place your order through retone.jp by selecting one of our "Custom-Made Design" products, or you can contact us for a consultation.

STEP 2
Design Consultation Begins: We will begin the design consultation via email or LINE between you, the craftsperson, and our company. Please tell us about your preferred motifs and designs. The craftsperson will then create a rough sketch (monochrome).
If you would like to have photos of your pets or family members incorporated into the design using the chinkin technique, please send the photos to us so we can receive them.

STEP 3
If you would like to have the Saikikou maki-e (lacquerware) applied to piano parts or spoons, we will provide you with a rough sketch (monochrome). Production will begin only after we receive your design approval.

STEP 4
Please transfer the payment to our designated bank account. We will begin production after confirming receipt of your payment.

STEP 5
After production is complete, we will send you your custom-made product along with the photos you provided.

A fusion of Kyoto's traditional maki-e lacquerware and new techniques.

The world of Kyoto's traditional craft, Kyo-maki-e, is depicted with splendor and delicate detail using gold and silver.
Our company has begun creating one-of-a-kind pianos by utilizing the traditional Kyoto craft technique of "Makie" and a new craft called "Saikikou," which uses Kyoto opal, an artificial gemstone.
A new craft that fuses the refined sensibilities of the Japanese people, Kyoto Opal, a new material born in Kyoto, and traditional Kyoto techniques, will create a new space that will be adorned with the "Saikiko Makie Piano," bringing a touch of Kyoto's traditional Japanese atmosphere to any space.

By using new materials born in Kyoto and new methods of expression that utilize them, I hope to further enhance the uniqueness of Kyoto's traditional crafts and help preserve the "authentic quality" of Kyoto's traditional crafts.
Things that can only be made by human hands, things that have been created by human hands, evoke a comforting warmth when you see them.
Our wish is to cherish "genuine quality" forever.
